Founded by Asli Smith & Sirin Aysan through a mutual love and appreciation of individually crafted and handwoven rugs, the Marmi brand was born out of the founders’ desire to create unique collections that expressed rug design as an art form.
Asli Smith is an artist and multidisciplinary designer based in Istanbul & New York. Sirin Aysan is a documentary filmmaker and creative executive based in Los Angeles.
OUR PRODUCTS
CRAFTMANSHIP
Marmi works with traditional artisanal craftsmen and weavers in the founders’ native land, Turkey. Creating sustainable livelihoods for small local economies and supporting communities that are predominantly women is a major objective of the Marmi brand.
PRODUCTION METHODS
Marmi rugs are made by felting, hand-tufting and hand-weaving. Made by talented local artisans with a passion for their craft, and committed to improving its production methods towards a zero-waste future, Marmi offers high quality rugs which can also be tailored to the specific needs of the customer.
BESPOKE
Studio Marmi rugs and wallhangings
are handcrafted in Turkiye, using natural materials and sustainable practices. These products are meticulously made by skilled artisans and weavers using traditional, time-honored techniques.
MATERIALS
Marmi is commited to using only natural fibers such as wool, recycled cotton, jute and TENCEL for the production of its rugs.
Wool
Wool offers quality, flexibility and is 100% biodegradable. We use Turkish wool to reduce the environmental impact as all our rugs are made in Turkey.
TENCEL
The soft and silky Tencel fibers are created from environmentally responsible processes from the sustainably sourced natural raw material wood. Soft and silky in texture, Tencel is anti-bacterial and wrinkle-resistant.
Recycled Cotton
Cotton that comes from the surplus of textile factories in Turkey is an eco-friendly textile alternative to regular cotton. Lightweight and breathable, this material minimizes the environmental impact of textiles that end up in landfills.
Hemp
Hemp is a highly sustainable material. It requires minimal water, no pesticides, and grows quickly, making it an eco-friendly choice for rugs. Its cultivation helps to improve soil health and can be part of a regenerative agricultural cycle.Hemp fibers are known for their durability, making hemp rugs robust and long-lasting. They can withstand high traffic areas without wearing out quickly, making them a great choice for homes or offices. Hemp rugs are hypoallergenic and they do not trap dust or harbor allergens like some other materials, enhancing indoor air quality.
